Le 15 octobre 2016, je suis officiellement devenu étudiant à la faculté des sciences de la santé, mention hospitalière, à l'Institut Supérieur des Techniques Médicales de Goma, en République Démocratique du Congo. À l'époque, je n'avais pas de choix précis en matière d'orientation. Je venais fraîchement de l'école secondaire et j'étais sans abri, vivant encore chez mes proches parents. Trouver une voie qui me convenait représentait un défi énorme, surtout en tant que préfinaliste en cinquième année scientifique. Élève bruyant mais excellent dans presque toutes les matières scientifiques, j'étais passionné par les disciplines de calcul : mathématiques, physique, chimie, dessin scientifique, etc. Mes chapitres préférés étaient les équations, l'algèbre, les limites, les intervalles et les logarithmes. J'avais une prédilection pour les chiffres et les raisonnements logiques, ce qui me prédisposait à des études en sciences exactes. Pourtant, mon destin en avait décidé autrement. Avant d'entrer dans le vif du sujet, permettez-moi de me présenter. On me surnomme Mutamba Bil. Je suis scientifique, infirmier licencié en soins généraux, acteur de films, développeur et animateur d'une chaîne radio. J'exerce ces activités depuis plusieurs années, ayant commencé par le dessin de caricature et la musique classique avant d'explorer les domaines scientifiques, la santé, le septième art et la télécommunication. Autant de compétences que peu de jeunes de mon époque possèdent. Je suis originaire de la République Démocratique du Congo, le pays le plus peuplé d'Afrique centrale et le troisième plus vaste du continent. Je suis né eutociquement, sans notion de réanimation, un certain mardi en 1994, alors que la première guerre du Congo venait d'éclater le 24 octobre. À cette époque, de nombreux événements marquaient l'histoire du pays : le soulèvement des Banyamulenge, la guerre de libération ou encore l'offensive de l'AFDL. La plus grande partie de mon enfance s'est déroulée dans la province du Katanga, territoire de Kongolo, près de la chute de la Porte d’Enfer. J'ai grandi dans une banlieue située à quelques mètres du fleuve Congo, un lieu empreint de souvenirs dont certains me paraissent flous aujourd’hui. Comment suis-je devenu infirmier, tout en étant acteur de films et animateur radio ? Je suis certain que tu te poses ces questions à présent. Installe-toi confortablement, car voici l'histoire que je vais te raconter... Mon Premier Stage : Une Expérience Inoubliable Mon premier stage en soins infirmiers fut une épreuve marquante, un mélange d'excitation et d'appréhension. Je me souviens encore du premier jour où je franchis les portes de l’hôpital. L’odeur des désinfectants, le bruit des appareils médicaux, les va-et-vient incessants du personnel de santé… tout cela créait une atmosphère à la fois stimulante et intimidante. Dès mon arrivée, on me confia une blouse blanche et un badge. Le chef de service, un homme d'expérience à l'air sévère, nous accueillit avec un discours solennel : « Ici, vous êtes au service des patients. Votre mission est de soigner, de soulager et d’accompagner. Chaque geste compte. Chaque décision peut avoir des conséquences. » Ces paroles résonnèrent en moi comme une prise de conscience. J’étais là, non plus en simple étudiant, mais en futur soignant. Les premiers jours furent éprouvants. Il fallait apprendre rapidement : préparer les médicaments, prendre les constantes, rassurer les patients, observer les soins administrés par les infirmiers expérimentés. Mon premier contact avec un patient en détresse fut un véritable choc émotionnel. Une femme âgée, souffrant d’une insuffisance respiratoire, me regarda avec un mélange d’espoir et de détresse. Je me souviens de mon cœur battant à tout rompre en l'aidant à s’installer confortablement, tout en appelant discrètement une infirmière plus expérimentée. Petit à petit, je pris confiance en moi. J’appris à gérer mon stress, à écouter, à observer, à anticiper. Les nuits de garde étaient les plus difficiles. Le sommeil était un luxe, et chaque appel nocturne me rappelait à quel point la vie ne tient qu’à un fil. Un soir, une urgence bouleversa mon stage. Un jeune homme de 20 ans, victime d’un accident de moto, fut amené en salle d’urgence, inconscient, le corps couvert d’égratignures et de plaies ouvertes. Les médecins et infirmiers se mobilisèrent immédiatement. C’était la première fois que je voyais une réanimation en direct. Mon rôle était simple : tenir le matériel, observer et apprendre. Pourtant, je ressentis une pression énorme. Chaque geste comptait. Chaque minute était précieuse. Heureusement, grâce à l’intervention rapide de l’équipe, le patient fut stabilisé et transféré en réanimation. Cette expérience fut un tournant. Ce soir-là, j’ai compris ce que signifiait réellement être infirmier : être là, au bon moment, avec les bonnes compétences et la bonne attitude. Ce n’était pas juste une profession, mais un engagement envers la vie et l’humanité. À la fin de mon stage, j’étais transformé. Je n’étais plus seulement l’étudiant brillant en calculs, passionné par les chiffres et les équations. J’étais devenu un soignant, conscient de l'importance de son rôle, prêt à affronter les défis du métier. Mais mon parcours ne s’arrête pas là.
